Blazing Star (Liatris spicata), also known as Gayfeather, is a rare and striking species of the Ontario prairie. Unlike most spiked flowers that bloom from the bottom up, Blazing Star produces magnificent purple flower spikes that open from the top down, creating a spectacular display from July through September. Reaching heights of 60–120 cm, its unique vertical form and grassy foliage make it a standout choice for borders, rock gardens, and meadow restorations.

Note: This valuable native wildflower should not be confused with the invasive Purple Loosestrife; they are entirely different plants with very different ecological roles.
